VDL ETG PRECISION, EINDHOVEN
VDL ETG Precision in Eindhoven specializes in the (co-)development of high-quality precision parts, prototypes, sub-assemblies and modules for various research applications. These products require high and extremely precise turning and milling operations, accurate measuring tools, heat and surface treatments and accurate and clean assembly. The organization is characterized by flexibility, craftsmanship and high-end machines. VDL ETG serves the markets of analytical, semiconductor, accelerator, satellite and fundamental research applications.
The VDL ETG building used to be a Philips building. In 2020, an L-shaped extension was realized, including a new warehouse, production halls, clean rooms (these are areas that must be and remain completely free of dirt and dust) and offices across the entire width of the hall. “A new toilet group has also been installed and a canteen on the top floor,” says Jan Bruininx of Bouwbedrijf Burgmans BV “The new building is also linked to the existing building, whereby a passage has been created. So you can walk directly from the old to the new part.”
The size of the clean rooms has been particularly taken into account in the new construction. Bruininx: “They are now many times larger than before. Building clean rooms is very different from traditional building as we are used to. That made it a great challenge for us.”
APPLICATION OF GLASS
In the new building, different spaces are separated from each other by glass partitions with wooden frames. Martin Glas supplied and installed all interior glazing within this project. “Because these are glass walls that run from the finished floor to the ceiling, we have installed laminated glass, i.e. injury-resistant glass, in accordance with the NPR standard,” explains Wilco Kroes of Martin Glas. “We used the required fire-resistant glass for the doors and sidelights,” adds Bruininx. According to Kroes, this also applies to the part where the canteen has been realized. In addition to safety glass and fire-resistant glass, basic glass is also used. Panels with windows have been placed in the clean rooms to provide a lot of light.
READY FOR THE FUTURE
With this completely new look, VDL ETG is ready for the future. Bruininx: “We are very satisfied with the result, but the most important thing is of course that the end user is satisfied. Fortunately, that is also the case.”
