SOLAR CONTROL INSULATING GLASS
Sunlight can significantly raise the temperature in a home or office. Solar control insulating glass keeps the heat out in summer. In winter, it's the other way round: that's when solar control glass keeps the cold out and the heat in.
FEATURES OF SOLAR CONTROL INSULATING GLASS
Solar insulating glass or heat-reflective glass is specially designed to block the sun's heat. Standard insulating glass has good thermal insulation properties by itself. Solar control glass has a special solar control coating in the cavity that lets the sun's rays through but reflects the heat. The extent to which the glass blocks (heat) radiation is expressed in the solar factor. Internationally, the ZTA value is used for this, which is at an angle of 45 degrees. The national g-value is measured perpendicular to the glass.
APPLICATION
Solar control insulating glass is mainly used to prevent overheating in summer in buildings with many windows, such as office facades, conservatories, verandas, skylights and rooflights. In general, solar control insulating glass is of interest if a facade consists of more than 60% of glass. When choosing solar control glazing, it is important to consider the most effective value and the right location. For example, for free solar heat during cold periods, north- and east-facing facades often choose glass that allows relatively high solar heat through.
