PATTERNED GLASS: ATMOSPHERE, LIGHT AND PRIVACY ONE GLASS SOLUTION

Patterned glass (also called structural glass) is the choice when you want to let daylight in, but prefer not to have full view everywhere. The relief in the glass diffuses the light nicely and creates a nice balance between openness and privacy. The degree of transparency depends on the pattern, the structure and, in the case of insulating glass, whether the pattern is on one or both sides.

WHAT EXACTLY IS PATTERNED GLASS?

Figure glass is flat glass with a visible pattern or structure (think ridges, stripes or a subtle 'bubble' texture). The pattern is rolled into the still-warm glass during production: the glass runs between rollers, giving it the desired pattern. This can be done on one side or both sides, depending on the look you are looking for.

APPLICATIONS OF PATTERNED GLASS

Patterned glass is widely used in places where you want to retain light but limit visibility.

INSIDE (INTERIOR)

Interior doors (including sliding doors)
Fixed walls and room dividers
Shower walls and bathroom solutions
Cupboard doors and interior furniture
Counters or workstations with screening

OUTSIDE (EXTERIOR)

Windows and external doors
Façade applications
Canopies and skylights (depending on construction and safety requirements)

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT PATTERNED GLASS

A good choice depends mainly on what you think is important:

Privacy level: do you want to see contours only, or can it be virtually opaque?
Light and appearance: some patterns give a calmer effect, others a lively drawing.
Location & safety: in doors, wet areas or outdoor applications, safety or insulating glass may be desired.
Finish: think customisation, edge finishing and any recesses (e.g. for hinges or fittings).
